From Lincoln, With Love

Courtesy of Ms. C.A. Peterson-Rinehart.

As we recall, there's a community-run radio station in this building.
And the "video center" at the bottom of the picture was an adult book store.  As we recall.  Just from passing by.  Never going in.

Since starting this blog, we've returned to Nebraska several times, but have been unable to spend much time in Lincoln, so, these finds are all the more appreciated.

Ford Televisions

Originally posted, March 5th, 2013, submitted by Ms. E. Correll, and Mr. B. Johnson.

And, as our Western Field Office Manager, Mr. D.L. Hudson points out, Philco used to manufacture car radios for Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, hence, the seemingly confusing Ford logo.

Why Revisit?

Why post photos of ghost blogs already included here?

Sometimes the light is better.  Sometimes, it's a better camera, or a better angle.
Or maybe it's to highlight some signs new readers may have missed.

On the south end of McMicken. First recorded here.

Redux Week

This week, we're revisiting some previously posted ghost signs, with better, or just plain different photos.

Like this one, on Vine, just above McMicken, first featured in February of 2013.

Barn Signs

On East Miami River Road, north of Miami Town, and south of Dravo Park.
(Near where 10,000 gallons of oil spilled in a nature preserve, this week.)
A brief Google search failed to turn up anything on the name.

And not exactly a ghost sign, but coming from the other direction, you'll see this, on the other side of the road.

On the South Side of a Northside Building

The only words we can make out are "Partriage" and on the second line from the bottom, "Bacon".

On Virginia, near Kirby.

Spring Break

Readers of The Writing on the Wall have been taking their spring vacations, and capturing ghost signs as they travel.
This particular example was discovered by our Western Field Office manager, Mr. D.L. Hudson, on a recent trip to Kansas City.
He writes, "Sorry I didn't get more.  There's a lot."
We thank him and salute him for his effort!

This Just In...

This beaut was discovered, and shared by Ms. T. Weingartner, on her recent visit to the Windy City.

Lent

They're still in business, and by appearances, doing well.
But, it's a nice sign, so we decided to include it.

On Harrison, near McHenry.

Forgotten

Again, not technically a ghost sign, as the Cincinnati Club still exists.
But, in the alley behind the building, there's this.  Kind of has a speakeasy feel about it.

Look Down, Too

Martin Eichhorn was apparently a stone cutter and monument dealer in Cincinnati in the late 19th Century.
This sidewalk sign sits on 12th Street, between Clay and Walnut.

Caught During the Bock

As we were marching in the Bockfest Parade, we found this.

On McMicken, at the end of Moore.  Very close to these.

Not a Sign Per Se

But still worth including.
On Walnut, just below 12th.
Story goes, back around the Great War, the insurance company which had Columbia as its mascot, had her helmet changed, so it wouldn't resemble those worn by the Hun.

Walk on the Other Side of the Street Redux

Tuesday, because we talk about finding a different vantage point.

Walk on the Other Side of the Street

We tend to get into habits, like taking the same route to a destination.
But, when we change things up a little bit, we notice that which was previously unseen.

Like this very faded sign on Race, at 9th.
